Walk into a store, look at the Roblox rack, and every card looks the same. But once you redeem one, two players can end up with completely different things on their account — one gets Roblox Credit, the other gets Robux. If you have ever redeemed a card and wondered why your Robux balance did not move, this is why.
The Short Answer
Most Roblox gift cards are money-denominated. They redeem into Roblox Credit, a prepaid balance that sits on your account until you decide what to spend it on.
A smaller group of cards are Robux-denominated. These drop Robux straight into your account and skip the credit step entirely.
Players call the second type a «Robux card,» but that is a nickname, not an official product line. Roblox sells both under the same Roblox Gift Card name — the difference is printed on the card itself.
What a Standard Roblox Gift Card Does
You buy a card with a dollar, euro, or pound value on the front. You redeem it, and the value lands as Roblox Credit.
Credit is not Robux. It is a prepaid balance you then spend in a second step, on either Robux or a Roblox Premium membership. Roblox Credit can only be used in a web browser — it cannot be used inside Roblox apps.
That two-stage flow is the whole source of the confusion. The confirmation screen mentions credit, not a Robux count, so players assume the card failed. It did not — the value is there, it just has not been converted yet.
What People Mean by a «Robux Card»
Some cards bypass credit completely. According to Roblox Support, Amazon Gift Cards and Party Packs Gift Cards are redeemable for Robux only and cannot be redeemed for Roblox Credit.
Redeem one of those and your Robux balance updates immediately. There is no choice to make and no second step — which is convenient if Robux is what you wanted, and a problem if you were saving toward Premium.
The Party Pack is worth knowing about. Released exclusively at Target in the United States, it contains 25 individual cards worth 200 Robux each — 5,000 Robux in total for a $50 retail price. It is designed for birthday parties, and every card in it is Robux-only.

Why the Difference Actually Matters
Three practical consequences.
Premium is off the table with a Robux-only card. If you were planning to put the value toward a subscription, a Robux card will not do it. Check the card before you redeem.
Conversion runs one way. Once Credit becomes Robux, it cannot go back. Credit is also non-refundable and non-transferable between accounts — so the account you are signed into when you hit Redeem is the account that keeps the value. Permanently.
You cannot split a payment. If your Credit balance does not cover a full purchase, Roblox will not let you pay the difference with a card. It asks for an alternate payment method for the entire amount.
One thing both card types share: Roblox states that every Roblox Gift Card grants a free virtual item when it is redeemed. That is a small bonus direct Robux purchases do not include.
How to Redeem Either One
Go to Roblox.com/redeem, log in, enter your code, and click Redeem. A confirmation appears once the value is on your account.
The important detail: this is a browser flow. Codes do not redeem inside the standard mobile app or on a console. The one exception is Samsung Galaxy users, who can open the Roblox app, go to the More page, and tap the Redeem tile.
Finding a Credit Balance You Cannot See
Roblox Credit does not appear on every page, which sends a lot of players into a panic. Open Roblox in a browser, log into the account where you redeemed, and check either the gift card redemption page — where available credit shows under the Redeem button — or Billing Settings, where it appears next to the Roblox Credit line.
If nothing shows there, one of two things happened: the code went onto a different account, or you were holding a Robux-only card and the value already went into your Robux balance.
Which Should You Buy?
Buying for yourself and you know you want Robux? Either works. Buying a gift for someone else, or unsure whether they want Robux or Premium? Choose a standard money-denominated card. Credit keeps the decision open, and that flexibility is worth more than the convenience of skipping one step.
